The search for three missing brothers from Southeast Michigan will resume today, weather permitting. Nine-year-old Andrew, seven-year-old Alexander, and five-year-old Tanner Skelton have not been seen since late last week. Their father, John Skelton reported his sons missing last Thursday afternoon after saying he turned them over to a woman before he tried to commit suicide. Police now say that woman doesn't exist. Skelton is recovering in a hospital from a suicide attempt.
Governor-elect Rick Snyder is reaching beyond Michigan's borders for his budget director. Snyder has tapped John Nixon for the post to replace Bob Emerson, who has served under Governor Granholm. Nixon has been budget director for Utah Governor Gary Herbert and has held the position there since 2006.
Federal unemployment benefits are about to run out for thousands of Michigan residents...that is if U.S. Congress does not extend these benefits before its holiday vacation. The Michigan League for Human Services says if Congress does not extend the benefits, about one-thousand-100 Michigan residents will lose their unemployment benefits every day from December 1st to April 30th. That means area charities are getting ready to see more people at a time of year when they are often busy anyway.
Supporters of the Pure Michigan ad campaign rallied in Lansing yesterday trying to get funding for those ads to continue. They say business in the state has increased since the campaign began and they think the ad campaign will end without the state's financial help. They urged state legislators to approve 25-million dollars for the campaign in 2011.
